Statue of Unity- the world’s tallest statue marked its first anniversary on October 31st 2019. In just one year, the Statue has witnessed lakhs of footfalls making it one of the most prominent tourist destinations both in Gujarat as well as in India. The sculpture was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31, 2018, on the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Vallabhai Patel was the first Home Minister of Independent India.
According to the official figures of Gujarat Tourism, the total tourist footfalls at the Statue of Unity (November 1, 2018, to September 12, 2019) is around 26 lakh. The total amount of money earned through selling ticket is over Rs 57 crore.
The report says that In the previous year, total tourist footfalls across Gujarat was 5.75 crore. Total Non-resident Indian (NRI) and foreign tourist footfalls were at 12.35 lakh for the last one year, Gujarat Tourism Department official told Financial Express Online.
The Statue of Unity has overshadows other tall statues such as Spring Temple of Buddha in China, Ushiku Daibutsu in Japan, Statue of Liberty in the US, and Christ the Redeemer in Brazil. Spring Temple of Buddha in China stands a total height of 153 metre. Ushiku Daibutsu’s height is 120 metre. The Statue of Liberty’s height is 93-metre. The height of Christ the Redeemer is
38 metre.
The Statue of Unity is a testimonial to the life of Sardar Patel, a role model of unity and statesmanship. The tallest statue of the world enjoys a splendidly scenic location facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam, 3.2 km away. This colossal statue stands on the isle of Sadhu-Bet in River Narmada, at Kevadia, District Rajpipla in the Indian State of Gujarat, with the majestic Vindhyachal and Satpuda Mountain Ranges in the backdrop.
