Lakshdweep now a trending sensation on social media

India’s Prime Minister Narendera Modi’s recent Lakshadweep visit has thrust the island paradise into the spotlight, sparking online buzz and travel interest. The Island has become a trending sensation on social media, and searches for the destination on Google have hit a 20 year high globally.
Apart from that, the online travel portals have witnessed a multifold increase in Lakshadweep ticket bookings in the past 48 hours. The online travel company MakeMyTrip has revealed that there is an increase in on-platform search for the Union Territory by a whopping 3,400 per cent.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoyed the scenic beauty of Lakshadweep, interacted with the people there, enjoyed beach walks and also tried snorkelling. “What an exhilarating experience it was!,” he wrote on X, as he described his snorkelling experience at the island.
The Prime Minister shared a video showing glimpses of his Lakshadweep visit and said that Lakshadweep’s tranquillity was ‘mesmerising’.
He said the tranquillity allowed him to reflect on ‘how to work even harder for the welfare of 140 crore Indians’. The clip shared by PM Modi also showed him doing snorkelling underwater amongst reefs and marine life.
Other side in a big blow to Maldives’ tourism industry, with diplomatic tensions rising between India and Maldives, some travel agencies have even gone so far as to suspend bookings for the latter. As of now more than 8000 advance hotels booking and 2500 flight tickets have been cancelled.
This coupled with Lakshdeep’s sudden rise in popularity suggests a shift in tourist preferences. it seems Indian are rediscovering a Maldives-like haven within their borders.
PM Modi’s visit has served as a powerful catalyst, piquing the public’s curiosity and revealing a hidden gem closer to home. this, in turn, translate into a potential financial boon for lakshadweep residents, encouraging tourism and boosting local livelihoods.
Soon after Prime Minister of India Narendre Modi visited the Lakshdweep and tweeted the videos on X, the Island in Indian subcontinent became talk of the town as well as first choice of travellers to visit Lakshdeep.
