The severe Cyclonic storm Tauktae made landfall last night over Gujarat’s Saurashtra, and has since moved north-northeastwards with a speed of about 11 kmph in the past six hours, laying centred over Saurashtra—about 95 km north-northeast of Diu and 10 km south of Amreli. It will continue to move north-northeastwards and weaken gradually into a Severe Cyclonic Storm in the next three hours.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall with widespread flooding, inundation and landslide risk is expected over Saurashtra & Kutch and South Rajasthan in the next 24 hours. Gale winds are also forecast in these regions from early Wednesday, with gusty winds exceeding 100 km/ph on Tuesday.
The rainfall intensity will gradually ease up in these places, but heavy rain is expected over Western Himalayan Region (WHR) and its adjoining northwestern plains from Wednesday to Thursday.
In addition, heavy snow has been forecast over the West Himalayan Region from Wednesday onwards, with total snow in excess of 200 mm at isolated areas of Uttarakhand.
