MoT to launch India Global Travel Mart in January 2017

New Delhi April 17, 2016: The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is planning to organise a mega India Global Travel Mart in January 10-14, 2017 in New Delhi. Also, the ministry is gearing up to organise the Tourism Investors Summit this year from September 21 to 23 in the capital city of India. This was announced by the Secretary of Tourism Govt of India, Vinod Zutshi at the outset of Annual Convention of the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI), took place in Khajuraho recently.

According to him, the India Global Travel Mart will be based on the lines of international trade shows like ITB Berlin and WTM London. While addressing the gathering he unfolds a number of plans to promote domestic tourism, creating infrastructure and branding of destinations are among them. In an attempt to promote the coastal tourism the government has made some relaxation in this area. An amount of Rs 500 crore has already been allotted to five states to develop infrastructure like boat jetties and houseboats.

TVoA register an increase of 421.6% during December, 2014

The Government has launched Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVoA) enabled by Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) on 27th November 2014 for 43 countries. Prior to it, only the normal TVoA scheme was in operation for 12 countries.
During the month of December 2014, a total of 14,083 TVoA were issued as compared to 2,700 TVoA during the month of December 2013, registering a growth of 421.6%. During January –December 2014, a total number of 39,046 TVoA were issued as compared to 20,294 TVoAs during the corresponding period of 2013 registering a growth of 92.4%. This high growth is due to introduction of ETA enabled TVoA for 43 countries in November 2014.

The percentage share of top 10 source countries for TVoA, in India during December 2014, were as follows:

USA (24.26%), Russian Federation (15.06%), Republic of Korea (11.01%), Ukraine (8.16%), Australia (7.98%), New Zealand (5.08%), Japan (4.30%), Singapore (4.27%), Germany (4.05%) and the Philippines (3.10%).

The percentage share of different destinations for TVoA, in India during December 2014, were as follows: New Delhi (35.78%), Mumbai (21.05%), Goa (18.24%), Chennai (7.17%), Bengaluru (5.76%),

Kochi (4.54%), Hyderabad (3.13%), Kolkata (2.35%), and Trivandrum (1.98%).

After this agreement, Travelport-connected agents worldwide will have seamless access to search, compare, and book Vistara fares and ancillary services through their existing desktop workflow, offering their customers more options for air travel within India.

PM launches Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan

CleanIndiaThe Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, exhorted people to fulfil Mahatma Gandhi`s vision of Clean India. The Prime Minister said he had invited nine public figures Mridula Sinha, Sachin Tendulkar, Baba Ramdev, Shashi Tharoor, Anil Ambani, Kamal Hasan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Team Tarak Mehta ka Oolta Chashma – to make a contribution towards Swachh Bharat, share the same on social media, and invite nine other people to do the same, hence forming a chain. He urged people to share their contributions on social media using the hash-tag #MyCleanIndia. Earlier, the Prime Minister visited Rajghat and Vijay Ghat to offer floral tributes to two great sons of India, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, on their birth anniversary. He later visited the Valmiki Basti, where Gandhiji had once stayed, and initiated a cleanliness drive there.

Tourism Statistics 2013 at a Glance

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India releases the ‘Tourism Statistics at a Glance’ every year giving the details of international and domestic tourism updated and latest key statistical data. The Ministry also estimates month wise Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) figures and Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) from tourism, and this is brought out within a time lag of just 4-5 days. These statistical data is an important tool for the planners and policy makers not only for planning/policy formulation but also to monitor the progress of the schemes and evaluate their impact.

Ministry of Tourism launches ‘Incredible India’ mobile application

The Union Tourism Secretary Parvez Dewan here launched the ‘Incredible India’ mobile application that will assist international and domestic tourists to access information about Ministry of Tourism recognised tourism service providers namely approved Inbound Tour Operators, Adventure Tour Operators, Domestic Tour Operators, Tourist Transport Operators, Travel Agents, Regional Level Guides, Classified Hotels available in respective cities / Tourist centers. Details of the same will be given through this application to the tourists on their mobile phones based on their current location. Tourist can also query similar details for any other city he plans to travel to in future. In addition to this, the application will provide places of interest.

This mobile application has been developed as part of the initiative of the new Government in taking important positive decisions, especially, affecting the general public since its taking over the charge. This new application developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) will help the tourists in seeking services from Government of India recognized service providers and receive quality & reliable services from them.
